To celebrate thanksgiving in America, we donated a total of 632 briefs to the amazing I Support The Girls organisation. I Support the Girls collects and distributes donations of new underwear, new or gently used bras, and individually sealed tampons and maxi pads to women and girls nationally and internationally. Whether they are homeless, refugees, in transitional housing, or fleeing domestic violence, women and girls should never have to compromise on dignity.
The 632 briefs were delivered to I support the girls by DHL Express New Zealand who sponsored the entire shipment. The briefs will then be donated to 2 organisations who are in great need of new underwear:
Maggie's Place, Phoenix
Their mission is to provide housing and support for homeless pregnant women. Currently they have four homes, two transitional apartments and an alumni program throughout the Phoenix metro area. This is a new organisation that I support the girls are donating to and its great to know their amazing work is spreading throughout the world.
Love United Church, Gilbert, AZ
The Love United church and its pastors represent one of the local churches that were contacted by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to help with recently released refugees and those seeking asylum. There are many stories as to why they are seeking asylum, many of which are running from violence. I support the girls dropped off a donation a couple of weeks ago and underwear/bras are in huge need. While some may see this as a political issue, Pastor Cruz and her team do not judge and their goal is to meet the needs. I support the girls were were there when Homeland Security buses arrived with multiple people released that very day. The church and local community were ready to receive the families with basic needs such as clothing, toiletries, food and hosting for couple days. All individuals are now on their way to the next location and Pastor Cruz estimates they have helped approximately 800 individuals.
Today we give thanks to the amazing organisations like I support the Girls and their partners for the incredible work they do to support the not so fortunate.
