Breaking the Silence: Miscarriage & Loss Awareness Day

Breaking the Silence: Miscarriage & Loss Awareness Day

At Hotmilk, we stand for every journey through motherhood—the beautiful, the challenging, and the deeply painful. Today, on Miscarriage & Loss Awareness Day, we pause to honour the millions of parents who have experienced loss.

Why This Day Matters

Miscarriage affects 1 in 4 pregnancies, yet it is still rarely spoken about. Too often, those who go through it feel isolated, dismissed, or unsure how to share their grief. This day is about breaking that silence and acknowledging that every story matters.

The Unspoken Grief

Miscarriage is not just a medical event—it’s the loss of hopes, dreams, and the imagined future. The emotions can feel overwhelming: sadness, guilt, anger, confusion. There is no “right” way to grieve, and there is no timeline for healing.

At Hotmilk, we want to say this clearly: It’s not your fault. You are not alone. Your experience matters.

How We Can Support Each Other

Supporting someone through miscarriage doesn’t require perfect words—it simply requires compassion.

  • What helps: “I’m here for you,” “I’m so sorry for your loss,” or simply sitting beside someone in silence.

  • What hurts: “At least you can try again,” “It wasn’t meant to be,” or minimising their pain.

Small acts of care—a note, a meal, a check-in—can make an enormous difference.

Breaking the Myths

It’s important to remember:

  • Miscarriage is common, but that does not make it less significant.

  • It’s not caused by something you did or didn’t do.

  • Healing takes time, and grief doesn’t always fade neatly.

Honouring and Healing

For many, finding rituals to honour their loss can help. Lighting a candle, journaling, planting a tree, or joining a support group can be powerful ways to hold space for grief.

Today, many around the world will join in the Wave of Light—lighting candles at 7pm to remember the babies gone too soon. If this feels meaningful for you, we invite you to join.

You Are Not Alone

To everyone in our community who has experienced miscarriage or loss—we see you, we honour your journey, and we stand with you. Your babies are not forgotten.

With love and compassion,
The Hotmilk Team
